Osmosis is a physical phenomenon through which matter changes its density when it goes through a membrane.

Using this metaphor, Mercedes Peón has constructed Osmose, a hybrid piece featuring music, video and performance to articulate a critical narrative on the effects of capitalism on our lives. The protagonists are the female workers of the pottery factories of Pontesa and of the Galician canning industry. These were women who had come from self-sufficient micro-habitats where their pre-gender bodies lived through agreements of collective creation. Osmose is a reflection on/to the change of densities, on/to the conscious mis- and re-matching of these undefeated ways of life vis-à-vis the capitalist logics imposed on them. It is a homage to their resistances and also a musing on the pain of realising that these new forms imply a radical change in the way we understand life.

Peón’s staging is also an invitation to a collective dialogue through the images of her personal archive and the visual work of Peque Varela, the film narrative of the movie Nación by Margarita Ledo Andión and the lighting architecture by Laura Iturralde.
